The woman, who was charged with DUI on Wednesday by police, has a criminal record of 12 DUI violations over the past seven years.
Vickie A. Tavena, 53, was arrested on suspicion of mild DUI (blood alcohol level ≥ 0.08), extreme DUI (BAC ≥ 0.15) and was placed in the Pinal County Jail. Her DUI with license suspension/revocation, and worse DUI.
Around 1 a.m., Maricopa Police confirmed the registration of the Nissan sedan at a store near the corner of North John Wayne Parkway and West Bolin Road. According to the check, Tavena, the registered owner, had a suspension and revocation of his right to drive, and had no right to drive.
According to a statement of probable cause, officers saw the woman, believed to be the owner, get into the vehicle and drive off, heading south on the North John Wayne Parkway.・I stopped the vehicle near the parkway.
Officers contacted Tavena and identified her on her Arizona ID, Maricopa Police said. I noticed that her eyes were bloodshot and glossy.
Tavena reportedly admitted to drinking earlier in the evening.
During a series of field sobriety tests, police reported Tavena performing poorly. During her preliminary breath test, she blew a .203 BAC, more than double her legal limit of .08 BAC.
A police review of Tavena’s criminal record confirmed that she had had her driver’s license suspended five times and had her driver’s license revoked four times on multiple DUI-related charges. Her criminal record reportedly indicates that she has committed 12 of her DUI-related violations in her last seven years.
Tavena has scheduled a preliminary hearing on March 24th.
