A Maricopa County man has been charged and taken into custody by police on suspicion of killing his adoptive father during a home invasion in Litchfield Park over the weekend.
Xavier Salazar, 26, has been charged with first-degree murder of 58-year-old Joseph Salazar, according to the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office. The victim was the suspect’s adoptive father, according to the sheriff’s office spokesman, Sgt. Joaquin Enriquez and court documents. The indictment showed that the incident took place at the home of Xavier Salazar’s mother, saying, “While being removed from the house, Xavier spontaneously stated that he was happy with what he had done. ‘,” the indictment said.
A sheriff’s deputy responded to a call about a robbery in Litchfield Park’s North 125th Street area near West Orange Drive and West Camelback Road shortly after midnight on Sunday, the agency said.
A woman later identified as the suspect’s mother called 911 and reported Xavier Salazar breaking into her home, according to the sheriff’s office. The sheriff’s office said the woman was attacked by Xavier Salazar but did not know what weapon was used.
The woman also said her 21-month-old grandson and his mother live in the house, according to official and court documents. The indictment says the infant is the son of Xavier Salazar.

The sheriff’s office said sheriffs arrived and found a broken window and saw Xavier Salazar inside the house, with a woman pinned to the floor and arms pointing away from her. It is said that it was seen. A toddler was seen running around, the sheriff’s office said.
Officers forced their way in through the front door, separated Salazar from the woman and took Xavier Salazar into custody, the sheriff’s office detailed.
When officers raided the house and spoke with Salazar’s mother, her husband, Joseph Salazar, was injured and required medical assistance upstairs, the sheriff’s office said. It is said that he was told. The sheriff’s office said Joseph Salazar’s whereabouts were located and sheriffs began providing medical assistance, including cardiopulmonary resuscitation, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Xavier Salazar’s mother was taken to hospital with multiple lacerations to her face and neck, the agency said. The boy had no visible injuries, and her mother suffered head bruises and strangulations.
According to court documents, Xavier Salazar had previously made death threats.
Multiple weapons, including knives and hammers, were recovered from the scene, the sheriff’s office said. Court documents show Xavier Salazar was armed with a knife and hammer when he was detained.
Indictment documents state that Salazar had blood on him, which served as evidence in the case. A prison photo showed Xavier Salazar’s face covered in blood.
Suspect faces additional charges
Xavier Salazar violated a court order, according to indictment documents. However, according to court documents, his mother said no protective order had been issued against him.
Xavier Salazar was also charged with two counts of aggravated assault and serious bodily injury, one count of assault, one count of first-degree robbery, and three counts of breach of court order, according to the sheriff’s office.
Court and prison records show Xavier Salazar was being held on $1 million bail. A preliminary court hearing was scheduled for June 6.
