Yavapai College reported a temporary closure due to a claim that a person was on campus with a firearm.
PRESCOTT, Ariz. – The lockdowns across all Yavapai College campuses, initiated on Monday morning, have been lifted.
Officials indicated that a call was made to the university stating that an individual was inside one of the classrooms with a gun.
“The lockdown was enacted as a response to threats received over the phone from individuals asserting they were in Yavapai classrooms with weapons,” the administration explained in part.
Multiple law enforcement agencies from Yavapai County arrived on the scene and determined that the threat was not credible, according to officials.
The main campus of the college is located in Prescott, with additional sites in Clarkdale, Prescott Valley, Chino Valley, and Sedona.
“The university is closed today. Employees, students, and the public should refrain from entering campus property at this moment. If you’re already there, please evacuate,” an official advised.
The lockdown began around 6:20 AM and was lifted by 10:42 AM.
“We appreciate your understanding and patience while our first responders ensured everyone’s safety. We also thank law enforcement for their rapid, efficient response and coordinated efforts,” Yavapai College stated.
Investigations are still ongoing.
