On Monday, April 10, the Yavapai Republican Men’s Forum will feature Tom Horne, Arizona’s Director of Public Instruction and Education, and Kara Woods, Prescott Unified School District Board Member.
Tom Horn
Tom Horn served 24 years on the state’s third largest school district board and 10 years as president.
He served as a Member of Parliament and chaired the Academic Accountability Committee. He served as state school superintendent from 2003 until he was elected state attorney general from 2011. During his time as Attorney General, he has represented all courts, including the Superior Court, the Court of Appeals, the Ninth Circuit, and the United States Supreme Court.
He has served in all branches of government.

- legislation:Member of Parliament. On July 11, 2000, the Arizona Republic wrote that Tom Horn “raised the level of debate in the state legislature several notches.”

He graduated cum laude from Harvard College and cum laude from Harvard Law School. He taught legal writing at his ASU Law School. When he was not in public office, he had a private practice of law, centered around court work.
In addition to being an avid supporter of music and the arts, he is also a classical pianist, playing solo with local orchestras such as the Yuma Orchestra and the Scottsdale Philharmonic.
Kara Woods
Kara Woods was born and raised in rural northern Wisconsin. She attended her college in Ripon, Wisconsin, the birthplace of the Republican Party, where she earned degrees in mathematics and physics. Carla spent over 27 years as a military wife until her husband, an army colonel, retired, and she taught schools across the United States, from Florida to Hawaii. She has lived in Prescott since 2013, where she taught an advanced math program in middle school before starting her own business and becoming a member of the governing board of the Prescott Unified School District. A lifelong conservative Republican, she has been very active in Arizona Republican politics as a precinct commissioner, state commissioner, and treasurer of the Yavapai County Republican Commission.
