YC Baseball Starts 2024 With Four Games Against Phoenix

As Yavapai County prepares for spring weather, the Yavapai College baseball team heads south for baseball-friendly weather to begin the 2024 season with four games against the Phoenix College Bears.

“Our team is ready and ready to compete for a conference title,” head coach Patrick Woods said when asked about next season. “This group is committed to the process of reaching our ultimate goal: Grand Junction.”

Baseball begins Friday, Jan. 26 in Phoenix, Arizona, with the Roughriders and Bears playing at noon and 2:30 p.m. The next day, each team will play another doubleheader at the same time with YC designated as the home team. Yavapai's home game originally scheduled for Saturday was canceled due to weather.

Phoenix went 21-34 overall last season, but this season the Bears are receiving votes in the NJCAA DII Baseball Preseason Rankings.

Last season, YC finished 5th in the ACCAC standings with a record of 29 wins and 20 losses, narrowly missing out on a spot in the district playoffs.

This season's head coach is Patrick Woods and assistant coach JJ Flores, Tom Suckow and ray clinton will aim to return to the playoffs with a roster of 38 student-athletes, including 11 returners and 27 newcomers.
