Yuma, Arizona (KYMA, KECY) – The Yuma County Sheriff’s Office (YCSO) has issued a notice to inform the Yuma community about a Level 3 sex offender in the area.
YCSO said he was told by Cutbert Rivera Jr., 73, that he lives on the 2770 block on West 8th Avenue in Yuma. The YCSO also stated that Rivera is not wanted by the YCSO as he is now because he is 5’7″ tall, weighs 190 pounds, has gray hair and brown eyes.
According to the YCSO, Rivera pleaded guilty in Yuma County Superior Court on July 7, 2015, to one count of attempted sexual abuse of a child and one count of attempted sexual intercourse with a minor. The minor victim was an acquaintance of Rivera. He was sentenced to 10 years in prison by the Arizona Department of Corrections with “259 days allowed for pre-sentencing.”
After his release from prison, Rivera was on lifelong intensive probation through Yuma County Adult Probation and is considered a level 3 offender by the YCSO, meaning he is at risk of reoffending.
Additionally, YCSO said the notice was not intended to cause fear. Rather, YCSO believes that “an informed community is a safer community.”
If you have information about current criminal activity involving this offender or any other offender, please call YCSO at (928) 783-4427. See also the press release below.
