YUMA, AZ (KYMA, KECY) – The Yuma County Sheriff’s Office (YCSO) has issued a Level 3 Sex Offender Notice to the Yuma community in this area.
The YCSO said Brian Barnard, 62, was told he lived in Yuma’s South Palm Avenue block 960.
The YCSO also said Bernard is not wanted by the YCSO at this time because he is 5 feet 9 inches tall, weighs 187 pounds, has brown hair and brown eyes.
According to a press release, Bernard was arrested twice, in 1988 and 2016.
- 1988: Bernard pledged not to contest a case of sexual misconduct against an adult woman he did not know in San Juan District Court in Azteca, New Mexico. He was sentenced to a year and a half in prison by the New Mexico Department of Corrections, and was given a one-year parole watch period after his release.
- 2016: Bernard pleaded guilty to two counts of attempted sexual exploitation of a minor. He was sentenced to 10 years in prison by the Arizona Department of Corrections, serving 680 days, according to the YCSO. After being released from prison, Bernard is currently on lifelong intensive probation under the supervision of the Yuma County Adult Probation Service.
The YCSO further said that Bernard is a Level 3 offender and is at high risk of reoffending and that the notice is not fear-mongering. Rather, YCSO believes that an informed community is a safer community.
