YCSO reminds the community about extreme temperatures coming | Yuma

Yuma — With dangerously high temperatures continuing, the Yuma County Sheriff’s Office is reminding the community that no one is immune from heat stroke, regardless of age or how long they’ve lived in Yuma. Prolonged exposure to heat can cause heat stroke, which can be life threatening.

Pets, children and the elderly are the people most at risk of unnoticed lethal heat exposure. We encourage local residents to stay hydrated, keep an eye on your car with children and pets, and check on the elderly in your neighborhood.

Follow these safety tips to help prevent heat-related illnesses.

  • Drink water before you are thirsty to prevent dehydration
  • Do not rely on fans as your primary source of cooling when temperatures exceed 90 degrees.
  • Come often indoors in an air-conditioned area to lower your core body temperature.
  • please wear light clothes
  • If you or someone you know has symptoms of heat stroke, seek medical attention immediately.

muscle cramps, headache, vomiting, confusion, no longer sweating, and rapid heart rate

If you need water or a cool place to rest, access or download the Yuma County Water and Cooling Facility Map at: https://www.yumacountyaz.gov/home/showpublisheddocument/51791/638163935241900000

I would also like to take this opportunity to remind the general public of the message, “Are you okay?” This program is available to all seniors and people with disabilities living anywhere in Yuma County. “Are you okay?” This program is a free telephone safety service provided by YCSO that ensures daily contact with subscribers who live alone and have no family in the area to check on daily. If you or someone you know could benefit from daily contact, please contact the YCSO Volunteer Coordinator at (928) 819-2212 or visit: https://www.yumacountysheriff.org/services-ruok.html for more information.
