YUMA COUNTY, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) – The Yuma County Sheriff's Office (YCSO) is alerting the community to scammers and fraud schemes using the “Inmate Deposit” website.
These inmate commissary deposit websites allow people to deposit funds into inmate commissary accounts.
YCSO says the Yuma County Detention Center uses the Access Corrections website service for families and friends of inmates.
This is an easy way to provide pocket money to inmates.
When searching for a website, type the full URL into your web browser and do not search for “Access Corrections” on Google, according to YCSO.
When an individual searches for “access modification” on Google, a sponsored ad with a misleading title pops up above the correct website.
Individuals can find these by checking the actual URL address.
YCSO said it has received reports of public funds being deposited with other sites, such as SecurTel, which claims to serve the Yuma County Adult Detention Center. It's not true.
Websites like SecurTel collect credit card information upfront and charge customers immediately after registration, without providing a service or verifying whether a prisoner is in custody.
YCSO also said its terms of service include a non-refundable processing fee, meaning it will retain the fee even if a refund is requested.
YCSO provided inmates at the Yuma County Detention Center with a safe way to deposit spending funds.
