YCSO, YPD and others assist SPD in homicide investigation

YUMA, Arizona (KYMA, KECY) – A male victim died of a gunshot wound on Saturday, November 12, 2022, according to a press release.

Briefly, at approximately 1:35 a.m., Somerton Police Department (SPD) responded to a 911 call of a man shot on the 100 block of West Spring Street.

Arriving officers, noticing people’s attention, told of a man who had been shot and run over by a car.

Shortly thereafter, SPD found a male victim with multiple gunshot wounds on the 100 block of North Somerton Avenue.

The Somerton/Kokopa Fire Department then transferred the victim to the Yuma Regional Medical Center (YRMC).

From there, the YRMC airlifted the victim to a hospital in Phoenix, where he died.

At approximately 9:02 a.m., SPD located the suspect’s vehicle at block 3600 Lorenza Street in Somerton.

After hours of surveillance, the suspect escaped from officers but was arrested on the 600 block of West Palo Verde Street.

Additionally, the SPD thanked the Yuma County Sheriff’s Office, Kokopa Police Department, Yuma Police Department, and other law enforcement agencies that assisted with the investigation.

However, the case is still under investigation by the Somerton Police Department Investigative Division.
