YFD responds to Monday morning apartment fire

Yuma, AZ (KYMA, KECY) – The Yuma Fire Department (YFD) responded to an apartment fire near South Ave and W. 19th Street.

The fire started before 3 a.m. Monday, according to YFD. When the YFD arrived, they discovered fires in the bathroom and bedroom areas of the Yuma Garden Apartments.

After locating the fire, YFD said firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze and contained it inside the apartment where it started.

Luckily, the two people who lived in the apartment were able to evacuate safely, and the smoke was detected, triggering the smoke detector. However, the apartment was damaged by a large fire, rendering the apartment uninhabitable.

YFD also found the source of the fire. The fire started in the bathroom exhaust/vent and burning debris fell into the bathroom. The fire then spread throughout the apartment.
