CNN panelist Jamelle Bouie called on Democrats to refrain from having any high-profile appearances at the Democratic National Convention (DNC) during a debate on “The Chris Wallace Show” on Saturday.
Amid growing speculation that famous singers such as Taylor Swift or Beyonce might appear at the Democratic National Convention, Booi said it would be a “mistake” for Democrats to rely on celebrity appearances.
“I think it's a mistake to have only celebrities as candidates, and if you look at the message that this candidate is clearly trying to get across, and the choice of Walz makes that clear, which is this is a regular candidate. These are regular people,” Booi said.
Presumed Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris on Tuesday chose Democratic Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz as her running mate. Walz first brought up the Democratic Party's theme in late July that 2024 Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump and his running mate J.D. Vance were “weird.” (RELATED: 'What are they hiding?': CNN panelists ask Kamala Harris to face media, answer voters' questions)
“Waltz has attacked Republicans as weirdos and called Trump and Vance weirdos, but the convention will want to make that point by focusing on regular people,” Booi said. “One of the strengths of picking Waltz is it sends a clear message that you can be a regular white guy.”
Harris used several celebrities, including rappers, to liven up the crowds at her rallies. Megan Thee Stallion Indie folk band in Atlanta, Georgia on July 30th Bon Iver Aug. 7 in western Wisconsin.

This is not a Kamala Harris rally. This is a crowd at a free Bon Iver concert where Kamala Harris happened to be speaking. People were there for the concert, not to see Harris. Concertgoers were handed Harris signs upon entry. 100% fake. pic.twitter.com/Tkz2FIGiZ0

The vice president in late July branded his campaign account with an X, echoing the neon-green aesthetic of pop sensation Charli XCX's sixth studio album, “Brat.”
“Kamala is a brat,” Charlie XCX wrote on July 21, the day Biden gave up on reelection and endorsed Harris.
