City Council Seat Application Following Mayor’s Resignation
On September 30, 2025, Mayor Scott Jablow stepped down at 5 PM, leading the Sedona City Council to open applications for his vacant seat.
Vice Mayor Holli Ploog is set to take over as mayor starting October 14th, 2025, until the next city council meeting. The existing council members will choose an interim mayor to serve the remainder of Jablow’s term, which lasts until November 2026.
This change opens up additional seats on the city council. According to the council’s procedural rules, an appointment will be made to fill this seat until November 2026, after which newly elected council members will take their positions following the fall 2026 election cycle.
Eligibility Criteria for Appointment
To be considered for the city council, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Must be a qualified elector.
- Must be over 18 years old.
- Must read, write, and speak English.
- Must have resided in Sedona for at least one year prior to the appointment.
- Individuals with felony convictions cannot serve until their civil rights are restored.
- Those deemed “incompetent” are also ineligible.
Additionally, qualified electors must fulfill these criteria:
- Be a U.S. citizen.
- Be a registered voter.
- Be over 18 years old by the next general election after registration.
- Have the ability to write names or make marks, barring any physical disabilities.
Application Process
Applications can be found online at www.sedonaaz.gov/citycouncil. For those without internet access, application packets are available during regular business hours at the city clerk’s office, which is open Monday through Thursday from 7:30 AM to 5 PM. The deadline for submission is October 27th, 2025, at 5 PM.
