“There are millions of loyal and passionate Athletics fans in Oakland and around the world. … I know you are feeling great disappointment and bitterness. I wish I could speak to each of you individually, but I can sincerely say that we tried. It was our goal, our mission, to remain in Oakland and we fell short. For that, I am sincerely sorry,” Fisher's letter said.

Larry Vail, sports director for ABC7 in San Francisco, was not convinced at all, blasting Fisher on his news program: And what a spectacle he gave us.
“Okay, I've heard Fisher's statement. Now let me give you some reality checks. John, you've tried five extremely flawed stadium proposals. You never even got close to putting a shovel in the ground. … John, you surround yourself with incompetent yes men. … John, you're a chronic miser. You've ruined your family's great reputation and tradition because of your stinginess.”
