We've all heard of incredible streaks. Whether it's consecutive wins, consecutive hits, or consecutive runs, streaks are synonymous with glory in sports.
But a fandom streak is a whole new level of dedication for sports fans who live for their team's every outcome.
During football season, Alabama Crimson Tide fan Tommy Ray has attended 654 consecutive Tide games, home and away, which is amazing.
But Montgomery Biscuits aficionado Richard Chamberlain beats Ray, and not by a small margin.
Chamberlain has attended 1,224 consecutive Biscuits home games, missing only two in 20 years, a pair in Montgomery in 2005 while hospitalized.
Chamberlain was also released from the hospital in time for the end of that week's series.
“When I come here I feel like I'm where I'm supposed to be,” Chamberlain told WSFA. “Every night I come here it's different. You never know if it's going to be a no-hitter or a triple play or hitting for the cycle. Plus, I've met so many people here. I've met so many of my closest friends here and I meet new people every night.”
Biscuits officials acknowledged he hasn't played as many home games as Chamberlain.
“I work here and I don't play every game in a year,” Biscuits general manager Mike Murphy said, “I don't think anyone has ever played every game in a season in minor league baseball, and he's played all but two games. It's really great and wonderful to have someone who has that kind of passion for both the Biscuits and baseball.”
Chamberlain had the opportunity to throw the first pitch at this year's home opener, marking the team's 20th season in Montgomery.
