YPD Police Chief retires, capping 30 years on the force

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) – Yuma Police Chief Susan Smith retired Tuesday after a 30-year career.

Hired as a Public Safety Dispatcher in 1992, Smith was on her way to becoming the first female Chief in 2019.

As Chief, she has addressed challenges such as COVID-19, surges in border crossings related to immigration and asylum, and reactions to the death of George Floyd.
