Hunter Hancock and Trenton Blomquist Win 11 State Champions Under Jeff Welsing
YUMA, Arizona (KYMA, KECY) – The interior of Arizona’s Veterans Memorial Coliseum has been transformed into a sanctuary for high school wrestlers in a three-day celebration.
At the end of it all, Yuma Catholic took home the championship, knowing they could hang a few more banners.
Both Hunter Hancock (144) and Trenton Blomquist (175) became Division IV state champions.
Overall, the Shamrocks finished as Division IV runners-up, with two winners, three finalists and a total of eight placeholders.
With Hancock and Bronquist bringing back the hardware, Coach Jeff Welsing has now coached 11 state champion wrestlers in Yuma County. Four of them were at Yuma Catholic University, and at Yuma High School he was a seven-time state champion.
