YUMA, AZ (KYMA, KECY) – Brotherhood and family are two key elements of Yuma Catholic football. In addition, he has two shamrocks taking the next step in their journey together as teammates.
Lorenzo Duran and Seth Stoner have battled it out on the practice field and played next to each other on game day. Now they have four more fields at Western New Mexico University.
On Wednesday afternoon, surrounded by coaches, families and teammates, the two played football and signed a letter of intent to transition from Shamrock to Mustang.
These two mark the next batch of Yuma Catholic products reaching college level, this time in Division II schools.
“I loved my team at the junior visit,” Stoner said. “We had a great team, a great coach, a great environment.
Another big thing was being able to play alongside his brother and being able to continue the relationship for another four years, albeit on opposite sides of the line, right beside each other.
“It’s great to play with a player like that. I treat him like a brother. He treats me like a brother,” added Stoner. “I mean, it’s just insane to think I could play someone like that.”
And while Durán came in as a freshman wanting to be a receiver, he found his calling on the defensive line and a nuisance to opposing teams. So now he’s grateful to be able to play against his older brother in his practice and make each other better.
“He’s on the other side of the ball, so I’m on defense, so he’s definitely going to be someone who can push me,” Duran said. And there will be war.”
As they enjoy heading to another location next fall, they will also remember their journey as Shamrock. Duran reflects on wanting people to remember him.
“On the field, I want to be remembered as a fearless beast,” he said with a smile. “Off the field, you can count on me. I’m a responsible person. I’m very resilient and like to make sure I push through no matter how hard it gets. is patience.”
As if four more years of playing together wasn’t enough, they also plan to study kinesiology in college and spend time together on and off the field.
A perfect shamrock brother bond.
