Yuma community volunteers for Feed My Starving Children

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) – The Yuma community came together on Saturday for a “Feed the Hungry Children” event.

The goal was to end world hunger by packing and sending meals around the world for those in need. The full-day event was held at Christ Lutheran Church. The church obtained food ingredients through fundraising.

When asked why the event was important, Josiah Schultz, director of Christian education, one of the organizers, said, “I think it’s important for people who have a surplus to come together and help those in need. especially here.” , as members of the church…as believers, we are called to feed Jesus and be a hand to feed those in need. ”

This is the third time the church has hosted the event, but the past four years have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Schultz said he had enough materials to pack more than 100,000 meals, with the goal of packing all meals on Saturday.

But whatever they didn’t pack, Schultz said, the leftovers would come back to feed the starving children and their staff would pick up where the volunteers left off.

Meals will be sent across Africa, parts of Asia and Ukraine.
