Yuma Crossing Rotary Club’s binational gala brings leaders together

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) – The Yuma Crossing Rotary Club's Black and White Binational Dinner Gala fundraiser drew leaders from around the world, including Yuma County and Mexico.

Several big announcements were also made at Saturday's event.

One is to install several pieces of art throughout Yuma County to demonstrate the partnership between Rotaries of the United States and Mexico.

The second was the announcement that Yuma would host a concert with opera singer Andrea Bocelli to help Rotary raise money for projects that bring light to coastal communities.

The club president said how proud he was of all the representation shown at the event.

“Representatives from 16 countries, two countries and four regions, Mexico and the United States, are here tonight,” said Yuma Crossing Rotary Club President Thelma Janet Lundy.

“This is something really special. We've had celebrations before, but we've never had a bilateral celebration. For this bilateral celebration, we're going to have San Luis, Mexicali… , the Imperial Valley, Yuma County and all over,” Lundy said.

Yuma Regional Medical Center also announced that it will donate medical equipment and supplies to the Rotary Club for distribution throughout Mexico.
