Yuma locals continue to protest mass deportations

Yuma, Ariz. (Kessie, Kima) – Locals in Yuma County gather Wednesday night to protest mass deportation.

This has been seen nationwide since early February.

Locals gathered at 4th Avenue and 24th Avenue, where the protest began and they headed to 16th Avenue.

People have shown disapproval of the Trump administration’s deportation of thousands of undocumented immigrants.

“I’m the daughter of immigrants. It’s easy. I saw firsthand what’s going on in our community… what’s going on every day. The effort that not only does the Mexican community, but all the migrants make every day to get up and go to work.”

Some members of the group say it’s important to be a voice for those who are silent and don’t have it.

“We are protesting the negative dialogue that is happening with our people. We are only protesting the inhumane treatment of our people through racist and inhuman detention centres, and bringing awareness to all of that,” said local protester Ida Thomas.

The peaceful protest also embraced other groups that felt abused, such as LGBTQ+ members.

“Because of who I am, I was told I wasn’t allowed to enter the facility, which is much bigger than immigrants. It’s about marginalized groups in the community like LGBTQ+IA,” Noriega said.

It started at 5pm and went until 8pm

This is not the first protest against this small collection, and according to the group it is not the last.
