Yuma man arrested for attempted homicide

Yuma, Ariz. (Kessie, Kima) — The Yuma County Sheriff’s Office (YCSO) has arrested a man in connection with an attempted murder that occurred early Sunday morning.

The incident occurred in the South 45th Avenue and West 3rd Avenue areas around 4:15am after YCSO reported a man had been shot dead.

Upon arrival, YCSO says lawmakers learned that the two men were “verbal arguments during the gathering.”

According to YCSO, both men left the scene, but one of the men returned with a shotgun and fired at least one round at the home where the other man was, the man was struck by multiple bird handle pellets, and the suspect fled the scene.

As YCSO’s Criminal Investigation Bureau took over the investigation, YCSO says that with the help of the Yuma Police Station (YPD), he quickly spotted and arrested the 28-year-old Yuma man, who was later booked at the Yuma County Detention Center for an attempted murder, which made the assault worse.

YCSO further says the victim was taken to Onvida Health, but later taken to a Phoenix area hospital.

The investigation is underway.
