YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) – A man has been arrested and charged with multiple charges, including second-degree murder, following a fatal crash in March.
Alexander Trace Ray, 27, was arrested on Tuesday, May 14th and booked into the Yuma County Jail on the following charges:
- Second degree murder,
- be at risk,
- Severe drunk driving,
- Criminal damage,
- Reckless and aggressive driving.
He is also being held on $500,000 bail.
The Yuma Police Department (YPD) said Ray was driving at an extremely high rate of speed with a young child in his car, who had been left with a relative before the crash.
However, Yankee police said there were no other passengers in either vehicle at the time of the crash.
YPD also identified the driver of the Toyota Scion who died as 29-year-old Ruben Orozco-Gonzalez.
On Friday, March 22, Yuma Police said Ray was driving a 2022 Tesla eastbound on County 16th Avenue at a high rate of speed and failed to stop at a stop sign at Avenue 3E.
The Tesla then collided with a 2006 Toyota Scion traveling south on Avenue 3E.
Yuma police said Gonzalez, who was driving the Toyota, was ejected from the vehicle and died.
Ray was extricated from the vehicle and taken to Yuma Regional Medical Center in serious but stable condition, Yankees police said.
