Yuma (3TV/CBS 5) — christina's closetA Yuma nonprofit provides free clothing to people looking for work and helps break down barriers for job seekers.
Nonprofit opens first location Located in the Foothills area Two years ago, it was located about a 20 minute drive from Yuma. He also recognizes that many of his clients face transportation barriers and hopes that by opening his second store in Yuma, he will be able to serve more people.
“I just wanted to break down that wall and create a place where people could come as they are and we could just help them,” said Christina McInnes, founder of Christina's Closet. She said, “No questions asked, no costs, no restrictions.”
The nonprofit organization has many clothing items donated by community members.
“There's really not much clothing for men right now. We're seeing a huge increase in the number of men coming in,” she said.
McInnes said the nonprofit organization has helped more than 800 people since its inception and has seen many success stories.
“She had a huge impact on my life just by talking to me,” said Christopher Marquez, a former client of Christina's Closet.
Marquez said Christina's guidance helped him turn his life around. He was able to get a job at a local nonprofit for veterans and now refers some clients to Christina's His Closet.
“It's hard to ask. My friend said it's a hand-up, not a handout,” Marquez said. “I think this really pushes and motivates people to want to better their lives.”
“You'll be judged in the first 15 seconds of the interview, so you need to project confidence and know how to carry yourself,” says McInnes.
Mr McInnes said: second place Christina's Closet is made possible with the help of donors.
“So he pays my rent and utilities so I can reach more people who are in transportation barriers, which is also a big thing,” McInnes said.
