The city of Yuma is reminding everyone that Mayor 9’s international bike ride is scheduled for Saturday, October 25th, kicking off at 8 am from the parking lot of the Yuma Civic Center, located at 1440 W. Desert Hills Drive.
This free, family-friendly event invites cyclists of all ages to celebrate the bond between Yuma County and nearby communities in northern Mexico.
Participants, accompanied by local public safety agencies, will take breaks every 4-5 miles at stops like Cocopacomer, Summerton, Gadsden, and San Luis. The ride concludes at the San Luis Rio Colorado border, featuring a celebration with live music, local cuisine, and medals for all finishers. At each stop, water, snacks, and restroom facilities will be available to ensure a safe, enjoyable ride.
This year, more than 400 cyclists are anticipated, hailing from not just Yuma County but also Southern California, regional tribal areas, northern Mexico, Tucson, and even Ensenada.
Riders are encouraged to register online ahead of time at yumaaz.gov/bikeride. Completing the necessary exemptions in advance could help streamline the check-in process. The first 400 registrants will receive a complimentary event t-shirt, and limited registration will be available on-site starting at 7 am (one form is needed per participant; parents/guardians must sign for riders under 18).
All cyclists must have the correct documentation for crossing the US-Mexico border.
It’s also advisable for participants to bring a bicycle and helmet, sun protection, comfortable clothing, and light personal items.
For those heading back to Yuma after the festivities in San Luis Rio Colorado, YCAT will offer transportation to the Yuma Civic Center. Riders looking for more flexibility can make their own travel arrangements.
The City of Yuma expresses its gratitude to this year’s sponsors for supporting this local heritage event: Sprouts Farmers Market, Mr. B’s, Gila Innovations USA, YCAT, Farmers Insurance (Marie Plunkett), Allo Fiber, Onvida Health, Del Sol, Telemundo NBC 11/ABC 5, Rafi Law Group, Z93 Outlaw Country, and Lamar.
