Although there were no state titles this year, the Yuma High School track and field athletes did well again last week at the Class 2A Athletics Championships at Lakewood’s Jefferson County Stadium.
The two-time 2A champion men’s team finished fifth in the team standings with 40.5 points. Payton won the men’s team title with 65 points, while Heritage Christian scored 54, Holyoke 47 and Pratt Canyon 41.5.
The Yuma women’s team finished in the top 20 and placed 19th in the team standings with 12.5 points.
The former Indians finished Thursday in the pole vault with Nash Richardson clearing 13-foot-4 for third, Bridger Lynch finishing fifth with a 13-1 record and Giovani Perez finishing ninth with a 12-7 record. , jumped onto the board. Forrest Rutledge finished in 9th place at Discus with a 128-8 record, earning points.
