YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) – The city of Yuma will host an Independence Day celebration at Desert Sun Stadium on Thursday.
The event included a DJ, foam party, vendors, and of course a fireworks show.
Brissa Garcia, the city's special events coordinator, explains how people should prepare for the evening's show.
“Any event that takes place in the city of Yuma, we have to meet with the fire department and the Yuma Police Department,” Garcia said. “We have to make sure that events that take place in the city are safe.”
Behind the scenes sources said a lot of preparations are being made to ensure everyone's safety.
“When it comes to fireworks, when they go up into the sky, the fire chief has to make sure there's a clear area for them to land,” Garcia said, “to make sure they're not falling where people are walking or near homes.”
The city plans to set off even more fireworks than last year, and luckily, they have an experienced fireworks maker who has been helping out with the fireworks for 25 years.
One local resident explains why events like tonight are so important in bringing the Yuma community together for events like this.
A local couple explains why Yuma supports events like this that bring community members together.
“It creates a sense of unity, you know? Yuma is strong. Everyone in Yuma is always rooting for Yuma, so it's really important for the city and the community to continue to have events like this and for everyone to come together and support each other,” said Yuma local Tyler Krall.
Gates open at 6 PM and the fireworks begin at 9 PM. Seating in the stadium is limited so please bring a blanket or folding chair to enjoy the show.
