The 13th annual Back to School Rodeo returns as an indoor event on Saturday, July 20th from 9am to 1pm at the Yuma Civic Center (1440 W. Desert Hills Drive).
This free family event provides parents with information and community resources on the education, health and lifestyle of Yuma students in kindergarten through eighth grade.
The city will distribute sync-style backpacks filled with school supplies such as pencils, pencil cases, paper, highlighters, composition notebooks, etc. to the first 2,000 students in grades K through 8 who arrive. Backpacks are limited to one per child, and children must be in attendance to receive them.
There will be information booths set up by local educators, youth service organizations, student clubs and more.
During the event, extracurricular groups will perform on the Civic Center's main stage.
“Since the Back to School Rodeo began, we have seen a high level of interest and engagement from the public and community partners,” said Brissa Garcia, special events coordinator for the City of Yuma. “This year, in addition to distributing 2,000 backpacks filled with school supplies, we also provide more opportunities for kids to broaden their horizons by learning about after-school activities such as music, dance club, track and field, gymnastics and martial arts.”
Vendors will be selling food and drinks.
2,000 backpacks made possible thanks to generous community sponsorship
This year's major sponsors include the City of Yuma, Yuma County Anti-Drug Coalition, Arizona Complete Health, APS, KYMA/KECY/Telemundo, Harvest Preparatory Academy, Eldorado Broadcasters, Caballeros de Yuma, The Yuma Sun and State Farm Cathy Nuetzi.
