election day
Today, Tuesday, November 5th, is Election Day. Voters must vote in person, drop off their early ballot in a drop box or submit their ballot at an election center by 7 p.m. General election tallies take time. All election results are preliminary and unofficial until formally reviewed by Arizona’s 15-county Board of Supervisors in mid-November.
Election Day Timeline for Tuesday, November 5th
- Polling places are open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.
- Voting ends at 7 p.m. Vote center workers and volunteers will transport the ballots to county election offices.
- At 8 p.m., each county will post its first batch of early voting-only results. These are the ballots counted since counting began on Monday, October 21st. These are typically not ballots cast on election day, except in smaller counties.
- Election Night from 9pm to 3am: Counting of Election Day ballots. Depending on the county, county staff can count and drop off ballots every few minutes in large urban counties such as Maricopa, Pima, and Pinal, and in rural counties such as Coconino and Yavapai, they can count and mail ballots en masse every few hours. You can vote.
Timeline for Wednesday, November 6th
- Nov. 6, around noon: On the final election day, ballots from as far away as the Havasupai Indian Reservation in the Grand Canyon and the Navajo Nation are counted. All ballots that require a duplicate inspection process will be counted.
Timeline through Sunday, November 11th
- Early voting will be canceled on Election Day, and provisional or conditional votes will be counted until Sunday, November 11th.
- The cure deadline is Saturday, November 10th, so counting cannot be completed until Sunday, November 11th at the earliest. Curing is the process of resolving issues by signing the green affidavit envelope for early voting. To count ballots, county recorders must have verified signatures each election cycle.
It will take some time to resolve the signature issue. The deadline to return your ballot is five calendar days after Election Day for federal elections, such as the primary, general election, or March presidential election, and three calendar days after Election Day for all other local elections. This schedule is subject to change based on the number of votes received on Election Day.
