Last weekend’s 8th Annual Mayor’s International Bike Ride celebrated the borderlands, according to mayors and participants from across Yuma County.
Saturday morning’s race started at the Yuma Civic Center, with cyclists of all experience levels lining up to take off at 8 a.m.
The route took them through the Cocopa Corner store on Highway 95, Somerton City Hall in Gadsden, Arizona, and San Luis, Arizona, before crossing the border into Mexico’s San Luis Rio Colorado state.
Event sponsor B’s Bicycles of Yuma followed the riders and helped those with flat tires, broken chains, and other bicycle issues.
Most riders arrived in San Luis, Arizona, with a small group finishing the race at San Luis RC
The event was attended by three mayors: Doug Nichols of Yuma, Jerry Anaya of Somerton, and Cesar Iván Sandoval Gamez, the new mayor of San Luis Rio Colorado; , San Luis and Welton City Council members and Yuma County Supervisor Martin Porteous were in attendance.
