8-year-old girl dies, 3 other kids injured in Arizona ATV crash

Coconino County, Arizona – An 8-year-old girl died after an off-road vehicle crashed near Forest Lakes in Coconino County, officials said.

September 4th at 11:00 a.m. Coconino County Sheriff’s Office received reports of off-highway vehicle collisions on Forest Service Road 99 and Heber Wildcat Road north of Forest Lakes.

CPR was being performed on one of the children involved in the crash when officials arrived, according to the Coconino County Sheriff’s Office. Coconino County Sheriff’s Deputy, Forest Service Law Enforcement Officer, and Arizona State Game and Fish Officer responded to the Forest along with the Lakes Fire Department.

An 8-year-old girl was pronounced dead at the scene, officials said. Another her 8-year-old girl and her two 14-year-old girls were also involved in the crash and airlifted to Phoenix Children’s Hospital.

Officials said all the victims involved came from the Greater Phoenix area.

John Paxton of the Coconino County Sheriff’s Department said some of the injured girls were siblings and were camping with their families.

Paxton said they were investigating whether the girls were wearing seatbelts and helmets, and most importantly, who was driving the vehicle.

Over the past four years, Coconino County has seen an increase in the use of off-road vehicles, which has led to an increase in accidents, Paxton said.

“People are careless and don’t really understand the power of these vehicles, how fast they can go, and sometimes how unstable the roads they’re driving on, especially on some of these forest roads,” Paxton said. Told.

“We want them to come and have fun, but with that comes responsibility. You have to understand the rules and laws that come with it, helmets and seatbelts. there is no.”
