Yavapai County Attorney Announces Awards for Office Members

On August 4, 2025, Yavapai County Attorney Dennis McGrand shared exciting news: several members of his office have been recognized with prestigious awards, both locally and statewide. Marie Higgins was honored with the Statewide Victim Advocate Lifetime Achievement Award at a ceremony on May 2, 2025. For nearly two decades, Marie has dedicated herself to supporting victims in Yavapai County. Starting as a volunteer, she progressed to her current role as a felony notification advocate. Her commitment to ensuring victims’ rights are upheld is truly commendable. She is known for her thoroughness and strives for accuracy in her work, often taking on extra responsibilities, leading to high regard from her peers.

Next, Christina Wesnitzer received the 2025 Victim Advocate Award. Joining YCAO in April 2019, she quickly established herself as an exceptional advocate. Promoted to Victim Services Supervisor in April 2023, Christina has displayed outstanding leadership while managing challenging felony caseloads. Her ability to navigate the complexities of the criminal justice process with a calm demeanor has been vital for her clients. She truly makes an effort to support victims, ensuring they feel heard.

Peggy Wagner was awarded the Statewide Legal Assistant Lifetime Achievement Award on May 16, 2025. After an impressive 45 years in the legal field, she recently retired from YCAO. Joining in 1987, Peggy played various vital roles, demonstrating expertise that transformed court operations. Her contributions have set high standards for her colleagues and will leave a lasting legacy in the profession.

On June 26, 2025, Deputy County Attorney Steven Sisneros received the Statewide Lifetime Achievement Award. With over two decades at YCAO, Steven’s career has been marked by notable achievements, including multiple awards for his prosecutorial work. He has taken on leadership as the supervisor of the Charging Bureau since 2017, streamlining processes and ensuring justice is served with integrity.

Deputy County Attorney Nathan Best was recognized with the Arizona Mad Hero Award for his commitment to serving victims, alongside receiving the YCAO Exceptional Victim Advocacy Award. Over recent years, Nathan has focused on DUI cases, applying diligence to ensure justice, even visiting victims in hospitals to provide support throughout the legal process.

In 2025, Larissa Parker earned the YCAO Felony Prosecutor Award for her remarkable work handling serious cases. Since joining in 2017, she has not only pursued justice but also guided her colleagues through complex legal strategies while fostering innovative trial techniques.

Jason Nunez was named the Rising Star Award recipient at the Yavapai County Lawyer’s Office. With a strong background in law enforcement and probation, he quickly made his mark in prosecuting various cases. His willingness to tackle demanding trials has turned heads, especially after leading a significant child sexual assault case.

Further recognition went to Brandi Suitors for the Management Professional of the Year Award, attributed to her efficiency and effectiveness in handling essential tasks since her arrival in April 2023. Her leadership qualities and dedication to helping her colleagues have gained her respect within the office.

Lastly, Kristy Matheson-Parks was awarded the Statewide Management Professional Lifetime Achievement Award. With 18 years at YCAO, she has become a pillar of support, exemplifying the spirit of teamwork and dedication to seeking justice for the community.
