Trump Ends Kamala’s Secret Service Protection

President Donald Trump has revoked the Secret Service protections for former Vice President Kamala Harris, as confirmed by a senior official. Harris’s security detail is set to conclude by September 1st. Typically, a Vice President receives protection for six months after leaving office; however, former President Joe Biden signed an order extending her security just before departing.

“You are permitted to halt security-related procedures previously approved for the following individuals, effective September 1, 2025: Former Vice President Kamala D. Harris,” Trump’s letter states.

Kirsten Allen, a senior adviser to Harris, expressed gratitude on behalf of the former Vice President to the Secret Service for their “steadfast commitment to professionalism, dedication, and safety.”

This decision follows Harris announcing she will not run for governor of California in 2026, as she gears up for a book tour for her memoir, “107 Days.” California Governor Gavin Newsom reportedly informed Harris about the termination of her security detail. His spokesperson commented that civil servants should not be targets of “unstable, vindictive political impulses.”

The Los Angeles Police Department may provide security for Harris moving forward. It’s notable that the cessation of security for another Democratic figure, Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, has been interpreted by some as an act of retribution from Trump.

In related developments, Trump has also revoked Biden’s security clearance and halted daily briefings, impacting access to classified information. Earlier this year, Trump’s administration canceled the Secret Service protection for former National Security Adviser John Bolton as well.
