Significant Meeting of Leaders in Beijing
On Wednesday’s segment of CNN’s “The Lead,” host Jake Tapper highlighted a meeting between leaders from three powerful nations: Russia, North Korea, and China. He brought in journalist Tom Foreman, who utilized a touchscreen to showcase images and videos from this notable gathering in Beijing.
During the bilateral talks, Russian President Vladimir Putin and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un met with China’s President Xi Jinping. Tapper noted the extraordinary nature of the gathering, pointing out a striking image of the three leaders together, alongside Xi’s wife dressed in traditional Mao Zedong attire. The trio symbolizes strong connections that, perhaps, former President Donald Trump could navigate.
Foreman mentioned an unexpected moment when a hot microphone caught a snippet of conversation between Kim and Putin. The two leaders discussed advancements in biotechnology aimed at longevity. He also noted how secretive North Korea remains, pointing out Kim’s daughter in one of the photos. He speculated on her age, estimating she might be around 13 or 14. While her name, reportedly Kim Joo-e, has been debated, she has begun to appear more frequently alongside her father.
The meeting marked a historic first, with Jinping, Putin, and Kim convening in the same place. According to various sources, Putin even praised North Korean soldiers who have confronted Russian forces in Ukraine during this event.
Donald Trump also shared his thoughts on the gathering via social media, questioning whether Xi would acknowledge the significant support the U.S. provided in the past to help China fend off foreign threats. He reflected on the sacrifices made by many Americans in what he described as China’s pursuit of victory and glory.
