Following a severe flash flood this past weekend, efforts to locate and recover individuals continue in Gila County.
In Gila County, Arizona, the search and recovery operations are ongoing after the devastating flash flood.
Authorities report that three people have lost their lives, though the exact number of those missing remains uncertain.
Gila County Supervisor Tim Humphrey discussed the status of the recovery efforts.
“We’re currently in an emergency situation, so our main focus is to keep everything functional,” Humphrey mentioned. “We’re clearing debris and ensuring the streets are passable. Now, we’re also waiting for a swift assessment to identify available funding from state and federal resources.”
Humphrey expressed the difficulty of witnessing the extensive damage across the area.
“I wonder how long the rebuilding process will take. It’s a challenge for us,” he added.
County officials noted that the local community is stepping up to assist in the response.
“It’s truly a supportive community. In downtown Grove, people are actively cleaning up. Just yesterday, a young man with a shovel was working to clear the mess. The community really comes together in times like this.”
