Senate Approves Trump’s Nominees, Including Two from Alabama
The U.S. Senate recently confirmed a list of 107 nominees put forward by President Donald Trump, with two notable selections from Alabama.
In a narrow vote of 51-47, the Senate approved Linda Blanchard to represent the U.S. in the House of Representatives at the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, taking on the role of ambassador.
Blanchard hails from Alabama and previously served as the U.S. ambassador to Slovenia from 2019 to 2021.
In a separate 51-47 vote, the Senate also confirmed Dr. Brian Christine as the assistant secretary of health. This position, as outlined by the Center for Reproductive Rights, includes being the primary advisor to the secretary of health on public health issues and overseeing the department’s strategic direction.
Dr. Christine practices at the Alabama Urology Center in Birmingham and had successfully navigated the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee prior to this confirmation.
Alabama Senators Tommy Tuberville and Katie Britt expressed their support for the confirmations. They emphasized their roles in the nomination process.
“The Senate has just confirmed 107 more of President Trump’s nominees, including Alabama’s Lindy Blanchard as the U.N. ambassador for food and agriculture and Dr. Brian Christine as the HHS assistant secretary of health,” Tuberville (R-Auburn) remarked. “I believe they will represent Alabama well.”
Britt (R-Montgomery) also highlighted the importance of the appointments, considering them a reflection of Alabama’s ongoing presence in federal leadership.
“I am incredibly proud to vote tonight to confirm two outstanding Alabamians to President Trump’s team. Linda Blanchard, U.N. Ambassador for Food and Agriculture, and Dr. Brian Christine, HHS Assistant Secretary for Health Affairs,” Britt commented. “I trust they will serve our country with dedication.”
Other leaders from Alabama extended their congratulations on the confirmations.
