Letter to the Editor: Let’s take a stand against mining Bill Williams | Williams-Grand Canyon News

My family moved to Williams about two years ago. We chose this area for its beautiful forests and the people who care about them.

Last year the Forest Service cleared the area around our house. When I first saw it, it felt like people were destroying the forest. I quickly learned that this was our way of helping Mother Nature with fire mitigation.

Around this time, I also learned about Drake’s mining claims and their intentions to mine pozzolan. This has helped no one but Drake. Their purpose is not to help, but to consume and destroy.

The minerals they ingest are not replenished and are of no benefit to anyone other than the interests of the Drake Corporation. Another example of a few people trying to stop people.

Many of us have worked hard to get here. We have left a place where human presence has destroyed nature. For many of us, the idea that this area would need to be destroyed in order to increase the concrete world is not only sad, it’s uncomfortable.

Anyone who cannot see this must have a heart as hard as concrete.

Has Drake exhausted all possible resources of pozzolans?

Are there other areas that could be mined with less environmental impact?

I need to be more specific and expand my civilization, how much will it cost?

We learn every day that companies and governments are failing to protect us from harmful environmental impacts. Often it is too late to fix them and those areas become wastelands.
