Rain and hail kept Lake Havasu City residents indoors on Wednesday as a winter storm passed through the area. Heavy snow has closed roads and forced school closures in higher elevation areas throughout Mojave County.
Hail was observed around Lake Havasu City in the early afternoon, with approximately 1/4 inch of rain falling between 2:00 and 4:30 p.m.
Wednesday’s track and field meet at Lake Havasu High School was canceled due to rain. Several teams were unable to move due to snow conditions.
Heavy snow has closed Highway 68 between Bullhead City and Kingman and Interstate 40 just east of the Interstate 95 interchange. By 2 p.m., ADOT said US 93 was closed from Kingman north to the Nevada state line. Interstate 40 was also closed to Ash Fork, 20 miles east of him in Kingman. In Kingman, the school implemented a winter early school release program to get the kids home safely on the bus. By 3:15 p.m., downtown Kingman had about two inches of snow.

This rain brought total rainfall for Havasu to 1.57 inches from 1 January and 2.21 inches for the water year from 1 October to 30 September.
The National Weather Service is forecasting possible additional showers and thunderstorms in Havasu through Wednesday night, followed by clear skies on Thursday with a high of 63 degrees Celsius. Meteorologists expect clear skies for the rest of the week.
