Pinal County health officials confirm first child death of the flu this season

Pinal County, Arizona (3TV/CBS 5) — Pinal County health officials confirmed Wednesday that a child died of the flu. It was the state’s first child death this flu season. People are being urged to get vaccinated against the flu to slow it down.

“Unfortunately, this tragic situation serves as a reminder that influenza can cause serious illness and death,” said Dr. Tasha Spears, health director for the Pinal County Public Health Services District. I’m here. “My deepest condolences to this child’s family.”

Since the start of the flu season, Pinal County has reported 172 cases and the state 4,552. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) says that it takes him two weeks to build immunity, so everyone over six months old should get the flu vaccine as soon as possible. CDC officials also recommend avoiding touching your mouth and nose, washing your hands, covering your mouth when you cough, and staying home if you’re sick.
