Mojave County — There were two train derailments overnight in Mojave County, but no injuries were reported.
One derailment occurred last night at Kingman Industrial Park near Highway 66 and Castle Rock Road.
According to the Northern Arizona Fire Department, 10 empty cars derailed and no spills or hazardous materials were involved. NAFD responded to the incident around 2:00 am on Thursday, March 16. Derailed he was handed over to BNSF and no injuries were reported.
Near Topok, a train derailment was also reported near Exit 9 on Interstate 40 around 8 p.m. Wednesday. The train was carrying corn syrup and no injuries were reported, according to the Associated Press. Eight cars derailed, BNSF investigating.
Anita Mortensen, a spokeswoman for the Mojave County Sheriff’s Office, told the River City newspaper that weather conditions and flooding made it difficult for response agencies to reach the scene.
A Bell Aircraft 407GXi helicopter owned by Classic Air Medical flew after the vehicle was unable to pass through the flooded wash near the tracks, according to reporters at the scene and the air traffic live website Flightradar24.
The helicopter took off from Valley View Medical Center and landed at the scene at 10:49 p.m., according to FlightRadar24 tracking. The helicopter flew again at 11:10 PM, heading northwest, and landed at Valley View Medical Center at approximately 11:40 PM.
BNSF has not responded to calls or emails as of 2:00 am Thursday.
