Year of accolades continues for Jim Rosborough, now selected NJCAA D2 assistant of year

Jim Rosborough has been an assistant coach at Tucson for 28 years. 18 years in the Arizona Men’s Basketball Program, 1 year in the Pima Men’s, and 9 years in the Aztec Women’s (Javier Morales/AllSportsTucson.com).

the honor of Jim Rossborough With a long coaching career, reaching 52 years, he is accumulating rapidly.

Over the past seven months, 78-year-old Rosborough has earned:

— Inducted into the Pima County Sports Hall of Fame in October

— Inducted into the A Step-Up Assistant Coaches Hall of Fame on March 8.

— Named NJCAA Division II Assistant Coach of the Year world exposure report this week.

Rosborough recently completed his ninth season as an assistant. Todd Holthouse after serving lute Olsons 9 years in Iowa, 18 years in Arizona, 27 years as a right hand man. He also served as an assistant in the Pima Men’s Program in 2009-10.

Assistant coaches generally stay out of the spotlight, but not Rosborough. With Olson, he made a public appearance in Arizona and was acclaimed for Pima’s successful program.

Of his accomplishments as an assistant coach, Rosborough said, “I’m really proud of it for myself, but we have a lot of people.” In an interview with AllSportsTucson.com this season.

World Exposure Report said of Rosborough, affectionately known as ‘Ros’ by those close to him:

Pima’s pre-game ritual is for Rosborough to spend time with his team on the court during warm-ups. Before the Aztecs take to the bench for the start of the match, they swarm with Rosborough offering words of wisdom.

Despite the nearly 60-year age gap, the players always look up to him.

“I love Roscoach” Pima Sophomore Priscilla Barrera Said. “At first I was kind of scared of him because I didn’t understand what he wanted from me. And it gave me the good stuff I needed to get out of Pima.

“I was like, ‘Wow.’ Anything extra I have to do, like a movie. If you want an extra shot, he’s there. I want to see an extra movie.” He’s there.
