YUMA, AZ (KECY, KYMA) – We’re listening to current issues to plan for the future.
That’s the mission of the two-day event run by the Yuma County Board of Supervisors.
Supervisors are beginning to finalize the county’s latest five-year plan.
Each county department displayed its goals and challenges on screen and gave a separate presentation.
Each department has its own challenges, but one problem was shared by all.
Many departments are facing staffing shortages and telling supervisors they are having trouble retaining employees.
Porchas hopes that conducting market research in other parts of Arizona will increase the number of qualified candidates applying for jobs in Yuma County.
“These studies look at where their salaries are and see if we’re on par, so we don’t lose employees and we can keep them,” Porchas said. .
Cybersecurity, county facilities, and improving workplace safety were also discussed.
The group will meet again on Tuesday, the last day of the meeting.
