Arizona Senator Kirsten Cinema’s departure from the Democratic Party late last year paid off for her at home, according to the Morning Consult’s latest quarterly approval ratings.

Cinema’s 44% disapproval rating is less popular than Arizona’s other Senator Mark Kelly (38%) and the state’s new Democratic Governor Katie Hobbs (36%). Nationally, Cinema is his eighth least popular senator among voters in his or her home state, one behind him Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas).
Cinema has yet to say whether it will seek re-election as an independent next year. According to Politicofunded her in the first quarter — and whoever comes out of a potentially fierce Republican primary.
Pinal County Sheriff Mark Lamb became the first leading Republican to announce his candidacy earlier this month, with others likely to join, including 2022 gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake. A state Republican strategist said: They believe the strength of Cinema’s new coalition will hinge on whether Republicans choose a senator candidate with broader appeal than hardline conservatives such as Lamb and Lake.
The quarterly survey was conducted from January 1 through March 31, 2023, with a representative sample of 5,589 registered voters in Arizona.
