Richard McHattie appointed as Maricopa County, Ariz., CIO

Maricopa County, Arizona, recently appointed a new Chief Information Officer. Richard McHattie is the former Chief Innovation Officer for the Maricopa County Clerk of the Superior Court.

according to the prefecture Enterprise Technology Authority websiteAs CIO, McHattie is currently responsible for leading a team of more than 200 employees supporting technology and innovation across more than 50 departments serving as the fourth largest company in the country.

According to one source, McHattie was transferred to the position on May 15. LinkedIn The post filled a vacancy left by Ed Winfield, who retired in March after serving as the county’s CIO for more than five years. (The county’s Chief Information Security Officer, Lester Gossey, was appointed as interim CIO.)

Mr. McHattie has been with the Maricopa County Government since 2005. While serving in the Superior Court, he established a new team, including his Office of Innovation, and delivered a number of new products to improve the employee and customer experience.

McHattie has over 15 years of combined experience in public sector technology. Before moving to the public sector, McHattie began his career as an entrepreneur, helping establish and grow his RFID-based pet retrieval system that utilizes implantable microchips to identify and retrieve companion animals.

He is also a business development executive in the energy industry, developing large-scale energy projects including energy efficiency upgrades and complex cogeneration projects for manufacturing and large industrial customers.
