PHOENIX — The Maricopa County Department of Human Services is distributing free diapers to eligible families.
The new “diaper bank” is funded by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services through the Arizona community action association WildFire, according to a press release.
The bank will distribute more than 700,000 diapers, ensuring a monthly supply of 150 diapers per child for about 5,000 children. The program offers a range of diaper sizes from newborns to older children, and will eventually offer Young Adult sizes for children with special needs. The Diaper Bank will provide eligible families with approximately $75 worth of diapers per child.
“We understand the financial burdens families face when providing for their children,” Human Services Director Jacqueline Edwards said in a press release.
“With free diapers available through Diaper Bank, parents can prioritize spending without compromising their child’s health. Diaper Bank is another initiative Maricopa County is working to provide relief to families. It’s just one way.”
Here are the eligibility requirements:
- Diaper banks are available to Maricopa County families living outside the cities of Phoenix, Glendale, and Mesa.
- Families enrolled in the Maricopa County Head Start Program are eligible.
- Families must also meet income requirements and be within 150% of the federal poverty level. This equals the annual income of her family of four, equaling $45,000 a year.
Diapers will be distributed every Tuesday and Thursday from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm, until supplies last, at the Maricopa County Head Start Office in Mesa, 1001 W. Southern Avenue, Suite 106.
