Verbal conflict between brothers in Mohave County escalates into shooting that leaves 1 dead – St George News

ST. George — The Mojave County Sheriff’s Department is still investigating an altercation between brothers near Littlefield, Arizona last week that escalated into a shootout that left one man dead and another wounded.

The Mojave County, Arizona, emergency dispatch received a call on June 1 from a woman who said one of her neighbors had arrived at her home for help. A statement released Wednesday by the Mojave County Sheriff’s Office said the man suffered multiple visible gunshot wounds and was injured.

The man also told the 911 caller that he was shot by his brother during an argument, and that he fought back and shot his brother. He then ran to the caller’s house for help.

Department spokeswoman Anita Mortensen told The St. George News that the incident involved two brothers in their late 50s and early 60s who lived together at a mansion on Willow Avenue in Scenic, Arizona. Told.

A man who ran into a neighbor’s house for help was not in a life-threatening condition, but was taken to a local hospital for treatment, he said, adding that the man’s brother was shot dead when the accusers fought back.

The man’s body has been turned over to the Mojave County Coroner’s Office for an autopsy to determine the cause of death, according to a statement.

Although the case is still under investigation by the Mojave County Sheriff’s Office, Mortensen said detectives had reason to believe the decedent was the perpetrator during the altercation between the brothers.

Their identities will not be released until their families are notified of their deaths.

An investigation is ongoing and no further details have been released at this time.
