60-year-old driver dies in car accident near St. David

Cochis CountyArizona (June 15, 2023) – Multiple cars were killed in a collision on Highway 80 Wednesday afternoon. Walter Korkanek.

The incident occurred on Highway 80 in St. David around 4pm on June 7th.

Authorities said the driver fell asleep while driving on the westbound lane of the highway. The driver then collided with three passenger cars traveling eastward.

Several people were injured in the clash. Officials at the scene said a man identified as Walter Korikanek, 60, of Goliad, Texas, died at the scene. Medical workers took the other injured to a local hospital for treatment.

A negligent driver was also injured and taken to another hospital.
