SUZANNE DOWNING: What ProPublica’s Crusade Against Conservative SCOTUS Justices Is Really About

ProPublica launched a partisan “investigation,” this time targeting another conservative US Supreme Court justice.

As if to signal that, mainstream media also jumped on the bandwagon, rejoicing at the prospect of free content for their own publications. The content was socially damaging to conservative lawyers and conservative lawmakers. This is a purely political retaliation for Dobbs’ decision in 2022. The latest target of the attack by the nonprofit is Justice Samuel Alito, the author of the Dobbs decision that remanded the issue of abortion rights back to the states because the constitution does not authorize abortion to the federal government.

Alito’s so-called violations? Personal salmon fishing trip to Alaska in 2008. according to The disclosure to ProPublica was not formally reported.

This pro-publica trophy is a small one in a sea of concerns for Americans. It’s dragnet ‘journalism’ reminiscent of ProPublica recent attacks About Judge Clarence Thomas.

In doing so, the Political Action Committee, disguised as a newsroom, sought to discredit Thomas based on the fact that a friend had purchased his elderly mother’s house with plans to turn it into a museum.

As the first anniversary of the Dobbs decision approaches, more left-leaning media outlets are turning to ProPublica as a source of information.

It must be reiterated regularly that ProPublica is essentially a politically motivated group funded by Democratic billionaires with the express mission of attacking the Republican Party. Thanks to the nonprofit’s partisan backers, the group has grown from just two people in his 2007 to over 100 today.

This ProPublica PAC works with media outlets that, frankly, have not chosen to spend on their own investigative reporting. Their relationship is codependent, leaving the newsroom in jeopardy. Because they don’t look behind the curtain at the organization that provides the ‘news’.

Let’s critically examine these ProPublica attacks. In Alito’s case, ProPublica emphasizes that Alito failed to report a fishing trip with the billionaire on his annual disclosure form.

An important detail pushed to the end of the story is that another judge had previously sought advice from the Judicial Council on whether to disclose a similar trip. It was a personal trip, so it was judged that it was not necessary. Alito leaned towards that decision. Although the rules have changed since then, Alito said he was aware of the 2008 rules and understood what should and should not be included on the disclosure form.

Moving on to ProPublica’s ‘luxury fishing trip’ description, the King Salmon Lodge is comfortable and comfortable, but far from luxurious. No golf course or day spa. It’s just a lodge, and it costs a lot to maintain in the harsh Alaskan environment. The rooms are spacious and the decor is wood rather than luxurious.

The costs associated with operating such a lodge where all food and necessities must be airlifted results in an overnight rate that reflects the high cost of living in the Alaskan wilderness. In as little as four months, lodge owners must earn enough to keep their lodges functioning properly during the long, harsh winters.

Moving on to the ridiculous story about Judge Thomas of ProPublica, the alleged revelation was hilarious. Thomas’ 94-year-old mother, descended from slaves of the Gullah Geechee tribe and Gullah was his native language, lives in a very modest home in Savannah, Georgia.

The house and two adjoining lots corresponding to the side gardens were sold to a wealthy friend of Thomas. ProPublica persistently labels the friend of his as a “Republican donor” as if he personally donated to Thomas.

ProPublica then alleged that Thomas underreported the value of the house in disclosure documents in 2009, at the time estimating the house’s value at $15,000. A few years ago, he sold the house to his friend Harlan Crow for $133,000. Thomas’ mom still lives there.

Real estate values in Savannah have skyrocketed over the past 20 years, and ProPublica’s expedition has fallen short. Mr. Thomas has been under attack from Democrats since the day of his nomination, but all that is needed is an updated disclosure report. There is a political effort here, paid Billionaire’s fault Democratic donor of ProPublica to tarnish the reputation of both Thomas and Alito. ProPublica’s focus on its relationship with “Republican donors” and their subsequent actions paints a lopsided picture, and is highly disproportionate given who finances ProPublica’s entire enterprise. It is ironic to

As the Daily Caller News Foundation detailed earlier this month, the Democratic donors to ProPublica are all funding the same group that is trying to force Thomas to step down from court.

ProPublica has once again stained its own blemish. When Americans speak the word “pro-publica,” it’s time to add “Democratic Political Action Committee” to the name.
