A Mojave County Sheriff’s Office lieutenant continues to be appreciated for his work in the Hydrographic Department.
Deputy Charles Tresher, based in Lake Havasu, received the 2023 Arizona Boat Officer of the Year Award for the first time in March. State awards judged trespassers’ attributes, ranging from their involvement in the community to their work with search and rescue teams.
In May, the National Association of Boat Law Administrators named Trecher the 2023 Western District Officer of the Year. Tretcher said the award covers the entire western state from North Dakota and Texas to California and Alaska.
Trescher is currently awaiting the results of his nomination for the NASBLA’s National Boat Officer of the Year award. According to the association’s website, Tresher is nominated along with Northern Region Protective Officer of the Year Jared Coffing and Southern Region Officer of the Year Lieutenant Jason Russo. National officers will be nominated at the association’s annual meeting in September, Trescher said.
“It has been an honor to be selected for one of these and being elected to the National Officer position will absolutely be a once-in-a-lifetime honor and experience,” Trescher said.
Prior to coming to Havasu, Tresher worked as a law enforcement officer in Pittsburgh from 2002-2007. From 2007 until 2020 he worked for the Lake Havasu City Police Department.
In 2020, Mr. Trecher transitioned from his job at the police department and was hired by the sheriff’s office.
The nominations and national recognition that Trecher continues to receive won’t change his main focus, he said. In accordance with his mandate, Mr. Trescher aims to achieve his goal of educating the public on water safety.
