Phase one of the renovation of the Maricopa County Vote Tallying Center (BTC) in downtown Phoenix is ​​underway.

On Thursday, county elections commissioner Scott Jarrett spoke out about some of the changes.

“Especially after Election Day, wanting to be able to get some of the ballots through a little faster, we plan to tear down one of the walls so we can reconfigure and add equipment to the tallying center,” he said. in the video.

In the meantime, the tallying equipment and ballot grading stations have been moved from the center to secure ballot storage.

According to another news release:

“There will be no voting within BTC and our livestream cameras will continue to run 24/7 for public viewing. May be temporarily disabled.Subsequent phases of renovation will include “expansion to warehouses, an election command center, various conference rooms, and utility spaces throughout the building. Phase 1 completion September 2023.” It is scheduled for the 18th. Phases 2 through 4 will begin after the November 2023 jurisdictional elections are completed.”
